doubleplusungood means the worst.  In 2050 Newspeak becomes the official language of Oceania in Orwell's 1984.  By then, according to UN figures, the world population, estimated to be 9.3 billion, will be unsustainable leading to use of vertical farms.  Oceania, ruled by Ingsoc, English Socialism, will depend on its sea defences, one of the reasons why the Party highlights the Floating Fortresses.  

 

The towers are Trellick Tower, which had it's first residency association in 1984.  The engravings from Gustav Doré depict the sky from the dawn of the new Jerusalem, the last image in the Bible, the sea from an illustration for Dante's Inferno of the river Styx and the rocks from Dante's descent into Hell. 

 

Tom Gallant examines the pathologies underlying the West’s continuing fascination with pornography and collector culture. His interests in Victorian decorative craft and his training in the traditional far-eastern techniques of Kirigami and Origami conjoin in his works in which highly intricate and beautiful shapes are cut and folded from pages extracted from pornographic magazines.
