One of Dada artist Jean Arp's shapes from the artwork 'Moustaches et squellettes' can be seen in this silk screened piece, entitled 'The Shape of Things to Come'. The title is taken from H.G. Well's science fiction work from 1933 by the same name, but thematically refers to the 1982 sci-fi horror movie 'The Thing'. In this movie an extra-terrestrial parasite morphs its hosts into any desired grotesque shape. Together, these references point out that things often go in cycles, reinvents itself, just like Arp's work has been re-used in this piece. The Arp shape springing out of the hand is also a wink to future technology that might be of a more organic type.

Magnus Voll Mathiassen (born 1979) co-founded acclaimed Norwegian graphic design studio Grandpeople. Late 2009 he set up his own one-piece studio MVM. Mathiassen works with international clients as well as local ones, and his work is of both illustrative and graphical character. Mathiassen's work can be described as idea-driven, often with a simplified result. It has also been described as "(...) vibrant, unusual and highly graphical, but it seems to be driven by information and theory far more than the influence of other graphic design."

Mathiassen lives and works in Drammen, Norway.
